THE HARRY EDWARDS HEALING IMPACT QUESTIONNAIRE (HEHIQ)

The Harry Edwards Healing Sanctuary is pleased to announce their involvement in the creation of a new Spiritual healing research questionnaire.
Spiritual healing is probably the oldest documented therapy. However, it is a neglected area of research. This is partly because there has not been a valid and reliable questionnaire to measure the effects of Spiritual healing.
A team of researchers from the University of Southampton School of Medicine comprising Felicity L Bishop, Fiona Barlow, Jan Walker, Clare McDermott, and Prof. George T Lewith, have produced a psychometrically sound healing impact questionnaire that is acceptable to healees (patients), healers and researchers for use in future evaluations of Spiritual healing.
The HEHIQ developed from a study to observe the experience of proximate spiritual healing in women with breast cancer who are receiving long-term hormonal therapy. The study was funded by The Harry Edwards Healing Sanctuary and conducted by Fiona Barlow with healers from the Sanctuary, at the Welcome Clinical Research Facility at Southampton University Hospital.
This project has now been published in the scientific journal: Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (2010; 79:350–362). We hope that the HEHIQ will be used by researchers in the future to explore and test the impact of Spiritual healing.
The Harry Edwards Healing Sanctuary aims to maintain active engagement with research into Spiritual healing and its effects through the use of the HEHIQ.
